Multiple Scars
A series of frottages tracing scars on pine trees, from historical resin tapping. Produced on site in a conservation area forest in Estonia. The scars were also re-cast as sculptures made out of pine resin.
The resin serves as the pine’s immune defense and is stimulated by injuries and attacks. The artwork is part of a longer exploration of immunity and autoimmunity within Crying Pine Tree, and the title of the work alludes to the autoimmune disease multiple sclerosis (MS).
The GPS coordinates in the title of each work indicate the location of the individual tree from which that frottage or cast was made.
The frottages were acquired by Uppsala konstmuseum in 2023.
